Texas Children's Hospital is a pediatric healthcare system founded in 1954, when it opened as a three-story, 106-bed hospital and admitted 4,558 patients in its first year. It now operates four main campuses, headquartered in Houston, along with dozens of community locations across Texas, and is among the largest and most respected pediatric healthcare systems in the United States.
The hospital provides advanced hospital-based medical care for children across all major pediatric specialties. Its Cardiology & Heart Surgery programme has been ranked first nationally for nine consecutive years, and U.S. News & World Report has named it the top children's hospital in Texas for 17 consecutive years, with top-ten placements in all ten ranked pediatric specialties. Neurology & Neurosurgery and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery are also nationally leading programmes.
Clinical practice at Texas Children's is combined with research and medical education through a strategic affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine. International partnerships extend care to children and women beyond the United States. The organisation traces its origins to a group of physicians and community leaders who set out to build advanced pediatric care in Houston.
